Hi Ashies, I have found a website called Epic which has an online free access to books, some of which are on the Accelerated Reader Quiz. There are also some audio books and books that will read along to you. I have set up our class names and we can use it for free until 30th June 2020. It is an American website so some of the books are called different titles on the AR quiz finder (so it is good to search by author). See below for log on details for both Android, IOS and Laptops. If you use the code to log in, you should see Ash class and then I can see how much reading you are doing . Bear with me if it doesn't work straight away, I am trying to be more 'techy' but am learning too!

Before the school shut on Thursday and Friday, we were talking about how nice it would be if you guys recommended books to your friends and left the books on each others doorsteps with notes to each other. It is thought by some, that the Covid 19 virus could be passed on to materials such as cardboard and plastic, so always speak to the adults in your home before opening any parcels and sharing books from other families. as well as  rememering to wash your hands!

In line with government guide lines, we have put together a selection of activities to provide a balance of learning during this period of closure. Please complete as much as possible and bring the outcomes into school when we re-open. If you are able to print out some of the sheets to work on then that would be great, otherwise, do what you can on paper/exercise books given out on Thursday 18^th. We realise that these are unusual circumstances and parents have to balance this with child-care, home learning and this may have time pressures on the time avalilabe to support your child with this and would ask that you do what is manageable.

AR QUIZZES

As you know we use the Accelerated Reader scheme on the Renaissance Place website to encourage and monitor reading. Children take a quiz to test their understanding of the book once they have finished it, this usually has to be done at school. 

Renaissance Place have announced they will be making this facility available from home whilst schools are closed. 

The children  can find out which of their home books will be part of the scheme (and there are a great many) by going to www.arbookfind.co.uk, some classes have been shown this.

We advise students complete quizzes unaided. If parents/carers wish to support their child, you can do so in the following ways:

• Discuss the book with your child as the book is being read

• Ask your child to read the question aloud

• Ask your child which answers are not correct

• Find the page/chapter to which the question refers

What a busy half term!

Take a look at our Vikings display! We have created 'Rune name plates', warning posters, job adverts, information posters about Viking long boats. Well done to all our children who have done some superb home learning, from tremendous top trumps, to fantastic family trees, from superb shields and swords to cool coins, fact files and everything else.

We are enjoying our How to train your dragon literacy topic and have been working hard on our addition and subtraction strategies.

As well as all the addition and subtraction strategies that the children have been working on, some of them have had fun trying the 'Decatree' challenge,  particular well done to Martha for explaining her learning to her competitive class mates!!

We have really got to grips with addition and subtraction this week in maths and the children have been working very hard on some Roald Dahl problem solving. In Literacy we have been practicing our spelling and editing skills. We have been producing some warning posters about Viking raids!
